Evidently, there may not be much time left. According to the Mayan calendar, a distinct end of a cycle will occur on Dec. 21, 2012. Although it's not clear what cycle will be ending -- and although not fatalistic -- we decided it may be an opportune time to experience the Mayan world.

Rotary club gets $50k grant to aid Guatemalans

A recent $50,000 grant to The Rotary Club of Sequim is aimed at helping the people of Guatemala. Submitted photo The Rotary Club of Sequim President Sara Maloney announced Sept. 3 that the club has just been awarded a $50,000 Global Grant from Rotary International to improve health and sanitation needs in three Mayan villages on the northern edge of Lake Izabal, Guatemala.
